Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) is a high-capacity corrosion control solution designed for large-scale industrial assets. Unlike passive systems, ICCP utilizes an external power source (a rectifier) to drive a continuous protective electrical current to the structure, neutralizing the electrochemical process of corrosion. These systems are essential for long-term protection in demanding environments where traditional galvanic anodes lack the output necessary to shield expansive surface areas.
High Current Output for Massive Structures: Unlike passive galvanic systems, ICCP uses an external power source (rectifier) to provide a high current output, making it capable of protecting thousands of feet of pipeline or massive storage tanks with a single installation.
Adjustable Protection Levels: ICCP systems allow operators to precisely dial in the exact amount of current needed; this flexibility is vital as coatings age or environmental conditions change over time.
Longer Design Life: Because ICCP systems use “noble” or high-silicon cast iron anodes that consume very slowly, they can be designed to protect an asset for 20 to 50 years, significantly outlasting sacrificial anodes.
Effective in High-Resistivity Soils: In environments where the soil is very dry or rocky, the natural voltage of a sacrificial anode isn’t enough to push current through the earth; the “impressed” power of an ICCP system overcomes this resistance easily.
Integrated Monitoring and Automation: Modern ICCP systems are easily paired with remote monitoring technology, allowing your team to receive real-time alerts and verify regulatory compliance without needing to be physically present at the site.
